Diseases Associated with Heavy Metal Toxicity
Dr. Nooshin K. Darvish
As I discuss in my new book The Golden Gate, heavy metal toxicity is one of the root causes of modern day complex conditions and significantly contributes to aging. Metals like mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic and iron commonly found in our modern day lifestyles and food contribute to inflammation, tissue degeneration, hormonal imbalance, psychological disorders, organ dysfunction and DNA damage.
Long-term accumulation of these metals without active removal of them (called chelation) leads to immune dysfunction, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease, metabolic conditions like diabetes and insulin resistance, neurological conditions, heart disease and cancer.
In other words, heavy metal toxicity creates fatigue, numbness and tingling, brain fog, memory issues, skin conditions like eczema and acne, hormonal symptoms like menopausal insomnia and PMS, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, thyroid disease, ovarian dysfunction, lymphatic congestion, infertility, and so much more.
Transgenerational Metal Toxicity
We can inherit these toxicities from our mother. If mother has undiagnosed metal toxicity, during pregnancy or nursing, the metals mobilize from her body fat to be released into her blood stream to the baby. Hence, baby is born with a baseline of metal toxicity and throughout her lifetime, the baby continues to accumulate further metals that are passed on to future generations. Therefore, it becomes critical, for health and longevity and to reduce risks of chronic disease and cancer in our current generation and for future generations, that women especially be evaluated and treated for heavy metal toxicity.
Below is a list of metals, sources of exposure and tissues most vulnerable to accumulating metals to develop disease.
