Quick Article Summary

Emotions shape physical health more than most people realize — through epigenetics, environmental and emotional exposures can turn genes on or off, accounting for roughly 80% of health outcomes. Chronic negative emotions cause DNA changes that increase disease risk across generations, while elevated emotions like love and joy can reverse damage and promote healing.

“Love is the light that guideth in darkness.”

— Abdu’l-Baha

Is it time to let go of the negative emotions and instead, elevate to higher positive and healing emotions? Our emotions impact our physical health and the health of our future generations. This is called epigenetics. Research shows that you have significant control over whether you get cancer or not through these very mechanisms.

How Epigenetics Connects Emotions to Physical Health

Epigenetics refers to the environmental influences and experiences which act as switches to turn on certain genes and turn off others. We now understand that epigenetics influences our health by approximately 80% while our genes impact our health by 20%. In other words, we have the control of our health and wellbeing through what we choose to expose ourselves. Our thoughts, our actions, our emotions, our food and our environment do matter.

How Negative Emotions Cause DNA Damage and Disease

Grief, guilt and shame carry some of the heaviest and lowest frequencies. These negative emotions cause contractions of our cellular energy, producing feelings of helplessness and smallness and causing disease overtime. Such emotions lead to faster aging and DNA damage resulting in sicker future generations.

For example, emotions related to racism, namely chronic stress, grief, guilt, and shame, experienced by both the victim and perpetrator, produce some of the lowest frequencies in the body which cause DNA hypomethylation and inflammation. Hypomethylated DNA, along with pro-inflammatory cytokines, increase risks of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. The hypomethylated genetic material then transfers to future generations increasing the disease risk of each subsequent generation thereafter.

How Positive Emotions Heal DNA and Reverse Disease

On the other hand, science has shown love, joy, peace and enlightenment vibrate at the highest frequencies helping us feel expansive with capacity and creativity. The higher the frequency the more capacity to create and heal, and the healthier our cells. Such positive emotions have the capacity to heal our DNA and reverse disease. When we heal our DNA, we are impacting the health of our future generations.

This means that when we elevate ourselves to higher frequencies, our genetics can heal and transfer that health to future generations, thereby, reducing their risk of disease while creating a healthier generation.

Research has shown elevated emotions have the potential to reverse disease and slow aging through epigenetic modification.

Practices to Elevate Your Emotional Vibration

We can elevate our vibration by positive thoughts and action, acts of loving-kindness, prayer, meditation, service to others, plant-based whole foods, yoga, breathing exercises and oxygen therapies.

Imagine if we all engaged in such positive thoughts, deeds and activities… what an incredible world we would have.
